Prayer of Those Overwhelmed by Sorrow

Lord Jesus, You always gave Your life to God and served Him. You offered Your sorrow and pain to the heavenly Father, believing that He alone could take this sorrow away from You. By Your attitude You showed that You never held a grievance against God the Father for the suffering You met at the hands of men, even when You were beaten, mocked and crucified.

My God, eternal Father, I offer You my very self, and through the intercession of Your servant, Saint Dymphna, I ask for relief in my suffering, so that, like the merciful Jesus Christ, I may not set myself against God's will, even though at times it is very hard.

Almighty Father, You know how hard it is for me now. Lately a great deal of pain and suffering has come upon me. It is hard for me to cope with my problems. I do not know where to look for help that could soothe even a little my heart sunk in sorrow. So I come to You with a humble heart, that You may graciously receive me with my whole experience of nothingness. Heal me. But if Your will, my God and Father, is otherwise, please help me to accept my sorrow as an experience of Your presence and closeness.

I ask this especially through the intercession of her who suffered much as a young woman and yet did not give way under the pressure of her father. Despite the pain and suffering that accompanied her, she did not turn away from You, the one God. Saint Dymphna, stay beside the one who is sunk in sorrow. Amen.
