From intencje.pl to PrayWave

I built PrayWave so that no one is left alone with their intention. You ask for prayer, someone prays for you, and you get a notification that they did.

    A dream on Holy Thursday

It was the anniversary of the death of John Paul II. Toward morning I dreamed of a lecture hall. On a laptop, a professor showed the website I was meant to build: you could leave an intention on it, and anyone who prayed for it could let its author know. I prayed for discernment about whether this was more than a dream, because an undertaking like that meant a great deal of work.

“This website simply came to me in a dream. It was Holy Thursday, April 2, 2015, to be exact.”

    Good Friday

The next day brought difficult news about my son’s health. That was when I understood why this website had to be built.

“I was placed in the position of someone who longed for nothing more than the prayers of all their friends.”
I said on Radio Gdańsklisten from 5:25 (in Polish) (opens in a new tab)

    The intencje.pl address

The intencje.pl domain was up for auction, but the owner wanted more for it than I could afford. I wrote to him and explained what I needed it for. His reply came that same day: he lowered the price and I was able to buy it.

  4. 2015April 4

    Saint Isidore

I was looking for a patron for the site and thought of St. Isidore of Seville, patron of internet users. It turned out that his feast day falls on that very day, April 4.

  5. 2015

    Code on the train

I programmed mostly on my way to work, and a little at home too. To make time for it, I rearranged my day and started getting up earlier.

  6. 2016July 1

    Launch of intencje.pl

The site went live. At the end of July, the first flyers reached people.

  7. 2016October

    Silence

I added tags at the suggestion of an acquaintance. The intentions saw almost no activity, and I was losing hope that it would work out.

    Mobile apps

The intencje.pl app arrived on Google Play and the App Store. The Android version has been downloaded more than 10,000 times and has an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 106 reviews.

    Google Play review

“This app is, by the way, a revelation to me. I wanted my phone to be a useful tool for me, not a toy. This app turns the phone into a medium for prayer and a place to meet people in mutual support. Suggesting prayers to fit the topic of each intention is a very good idea, and so is being able to thank the people who pray for an intention I posted. Plus, it’s pleasing to the eye. Congratulations on the idea!”

    Intentions on the altar

Fundacja Małych Stópek (the Little Feet Foundation) encouraged people to download the app, and Radio Maryja wrote about it. Thanks to this cooperation, intentions were passed on to 29 religious congregations as part of the Modlitewne Okno Życia prayer initiative, and Fr. Tomasz Kancelarczyk brought them to Holy Mass.

“While preparing for the Eucharist, I turn to the intencje.pl app to read the intentions, pray for each of them and bring them before God’s altar.”

    A time of closed doors

During the pandemic, the number of intentions grew. People asked for prayers for sick loved ones and for the health of their families.

    Years of learning

I was learning the technologies needed to run the site from the ground up, though I had to give more of my time to my family than to work.

    Interview on Radio Gdańsk

On the program “Spotkania”, Alicja Samolewicz-Jedlicka asked me where the idea came from and who prays. I also told her that the site comes together during my commute to work, two hours a day.

“The agreement with God is this: family comes first, then work, and only then the intentions. That is also how I understand this calling.”

    Crisis

After so many years came weariness and discouragement. The old code had long needed rewriting, and I never managed to reach the point where I could take it on. I wrote to all users that I was closing the site on May 1, 2025.

“Together we built a unique community that gathered 6,000 users, shared 40,000 intentions and recorded more than 685,000 prayers and 303 testimonies. Every click on ‘I’m praying’ was a gesture of spiritual support and true solidarity in faith.”
I wrote to users on March 13, 2025

    A second wind

After that email I received a flood of messages: words of support, encouragement and thanks, often asking me not to close the site. I started thinking about carrying on.

    Starting over

I decided to stop patching the old code and write the whole thing again. After months of preparation, the real work began: the app, seven languages, daily readings, saints, parishes and testimonies in one place.

    Rome

I went on a trip to Rome. I toured the Vatican and attended a general audience. I came back feeling that what I do makes sense, and with the strength to finish PrayWave.

  17. 2026October 12

    intencje.pl becomes PrayWave

On the feast day of Saint Carlo Acutis, the site moves to praywave.app and starts speaking seven languages. All accounts, requests and prayers come along with it.
