Prayer for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit, Spirit of Knowledge, teach us to look at all created things in Your light, so that we may know the passing nature of earthly things and place all our hope in God alone.

Holy Spirit, Spirit of Counsel, where our thinking fails, show us what we must do and what we must leave undone, when to speak and when to keep silent. Teach us justice and direct us toward works of love and mercy.

Holy Spirit, Spirit of Fear of the Lord, inspire in us a loathing for every sin, guard us in temptations and help us to master and subdue our passions. Give us the grace of spiritual childhood before the Most High Father, and keep us from all pride and presumption.

Holy Spirit, Spirit of Piety, in You we cry out: Abba! Father! Kindle in us the fire of love for God, awaken zeal for His cause, so that we may devote ourselves with our whole heart to His service.

Holy Spirit, Spirit of Fortitude, teach us holy Christian courage, so that we may not be afraid to undertake great things for God, that we may bear our crosses for Him, and in dangers place our trust in Him.

Holy Spirit, Spirit of Understanding, teach us to enter into the depths of God's truth; give us steadfastness of faith; help us to know the greatness of God, which surpasses all things.

Holy Spirit, Spirit of Wisdom, lead us straight to God. Make us understand the greatness of God's love and of our calling, and the joy and consolation that flow from it. Grant that one day we may stand before God face to Face and know Him as we are known. Amen.
