Prayer for Chastity in Marriage

Saint Joseph, whom God united by the bond of love and marriage with the most wonderful of women, and for whom He marked out the demanding boundaries of married love, be my model and my help in shaping my own chaste marriage.

I will see in the woman I love, above all, a person and a child of God, and not only her femininity. That would wrong her and strip her of what is most precious. It would be an offense against God the Creator.

I will always respect the wishes of my beloved as to the ways I express my love for her, even to the point of forgoing physical union for a time or for good.

By my words, my conduct, my silence or my renunciation I will make it easier for my beloved to preserve chastity and self-restraint.

Through my love for my beloved I will carry out God's plans and purposes, of which I am neither the author nor the lawgiver.

Even against a part of my own self, I will that through chastity in marriage our love may be perfected and ennobled.

In remembrance of your own love, joined with heroic chastity, accept my “I will” and through the hands of Mary present it to Jesus. May He grant that I persevere in my resolutions and do not give way before difficulties. Amen.
