Prayer of an Engaged Couple

O God, You are the life and the love of all people; You have scattered traces of Your goodness and wisdom throughout the universe, and to man You gave a will and a heart capable of loving all that is good and beautiful. Look upon our engagement, upon our love for each other and our desire to walk together through all our life. We thank You that we have met. We thank You for the happiness You have given us.

Give us strength to persevere in faithfulness to You and to each other. Help us to keep chastity before marriage, patience in difficulties, and perseverance in trials. Show us the true meaning of the full union of soul and body to which You call every husband and wife. Teach us a love that is capable of self-mastery, ready for sacrifice, and seeking the true good of the beloved. Lead us safely to Your altar.

Merciful God, help us to prepare well for our wedding day, which will change our lives completely. Sanctify our love and open us to the gift of life that we will pass on to new human beings. May our wedding day be full of joy and peace. May Your blessing and the blessing of our parents rest upon us. We ask You this through the intercession of Saint Gianna, patroness of beautiful love.
