Peace

Saint John Paul II's Prayer for Peace

God of our fathers, great and merciful! Lord of life and of peace, Father of all people. Your will is peace and not affliction. Condemn wars and overthrow the pride of the violent. You sent Your Son Jesus Christ to proclaim peace to those near and far, and to unite people of every race and generation into one family. Hear the cry of all Your children, the anguished plea of all humanity. Let there be no more war – an evil adventure from which there is no return; let there be no more war – a whirlpool of struggle and violence. Bring an end to the war that threatens Your creatures in the sky, on the earth and in the sea. With Mary, the Mother of Jesus and our Mother, we implore You: speak to the hearts of those responsible for the destinies of nations. Destroy the logic of retaliation and revenge, and through the Holy Spirit suggest new solutions, generous and noble, in dialogue and patient waiting – more fruitful than the violent actions of war. Amen.
