Saint Carlo Acutis
Lay Person · 1991-2006
Layman, student, creator of an exhibition on Eucharistic miracles
Carlo Acutis was born in London on May 3, 1991. As a little boy he had a dream in which his grandfather asked him to pray for his soul. This experience awakened his interest in supernatural matters and led him to ask questions of his nanny, who taught him about the Catholic faith and prayer.
At the age of 7, Carlo longed to receive his First Holy Communion. After consultation with the local bishop, it was determined that he had sufficient understanding to receive the sacrament of the Eucharist. Besides interests typical of young people, such as socializing, traveling, playing soccer, and playing the saxophone, Carlo also created websites devoted to Eucharistic miracles and to Catholic saints. He called the Eucharist “the highway to heaven.” His motto in life was: “All people are born as originals, but many die as photocopies.”
A week before his death, Carlo learned in the hospital that what had seemed to be the flu was in fact leukemia. The illness progressed very rapidly, and on October 12, 2006, Carlo died, offering his life for the pope and the Church. He was buried in Assisi. On April 6, 2019, his body was moved to the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in the same town.
The beatification process of Carlo Acutis opened in the Archdiocese of Milan in 2013. In July 2018 Pope Francis approved the decree on his heroic virtues, and in February 2020 he approved a miracle attributed to his intercession. On October 10, 2020, Pope Francis proclaimed the beatification of Carlo Acutis. On September 7, 2025, Pope Leo XIV canonized him.
His liturgical memorial is celebrated on October 12.
Carlo Acutis, together with Saint Isidore of Seville, is the patron of our website.
